Virtual
Dedicated Server (VDS) Technology
Virtual Dedicated Server (VDS)
technology creates multiple dedicated-like environments on a single
server. Each website is assigned a private, isolated space. Each VDS
offers enhanced security and complete isolation from other sites residing
on the same server.
Website
Services
Unlike shared hosting, this technology completely isolates each VDS, or
“slice”, in its own memory, disk, CPU, and network space.
Hence, each VDS is guaranteed machine resources that cannot be used by
any other VDS or customer. Just like a dedicated server, each VDS has
its own independent operating system with isolated instances of Apache
(web server), Sendmail (mail server), and all installed software. A crashed
application (Apache, Sendmail, MySQL, etc.) in another customer's VDS
has no effect on your VDS.
"Watchdog" Fail-over Recovery
Our system utilizes a unique "watchdog" system. This system
checks the web service on every VDS on our network every 30 seconds and
restarts if it's down. If the web service cannot be restarted, our network
engineers are immediately notified. This way you are guaranteed to have
your site up and running at all times.
Web-Based Management
You get full web-based management which includes administration of email
and FTP accounts, aliases, IP filtering rules, DNS configuration, and
quick and easy installation of value-added applications (Value APP's).
ValueApps - "Easy Install" Applications
We have implemented a powerful framework that allows quick and easy installation
of applications within your hosting account through the management control
panel. We have over 30 applications available for installation at the
click of a button. Included among them are: SSL, E-commerce packages such
as Miva Merchant and EveryAuction, Databases, FrontPage Extensions, Streaming
media utilities, JRE, PHP, Perl, and many more.
Comparison Between Shared Hosting and Virtual Dedicated Servers
 |
 |
Shared
Hosting Environment
In a Shared Hosting Environment, all of the accounts on each server
share resources from the server. If one account uses up all the resources,
all of the other accounts on the server will suffer. |
Virtual Dedicated Servers
VDS Technology divides up the disk space, resources, and network
space. Each VDS has its own operating system. If a VDS on the same
physical server crashes, it will not affect any of the other accounts
on the server. |
